After the release of the EP 'Kayen' by Etyen (Not Another/Red Bull Music Academy'17), Thawra Records is proud to present the follow-up remix EP, featuring two of the finest Beirut-based acts, Pomme Rouge & Ziad Moukarzel, both delivering stellar remixes for the tracks 'Kayen' and 'Me Voy', respectively. The EP also includes a rework of the title track by Etyen himself. Pomme Rouge take us on a down-tempo yet spiralling deconstruction of Kayen, starting with a playful groove that tenses and inevitably morphs into a thumping rhythm and distorted synths of monstrous proportions. Ziad Moukarzel, on the other hand, chooses to build on Me Voy's original melodic progression, and create a rave-suited banger. The remix combines unrelenting kick drums and high bpm energy juxtaposed to the soft warm synth flurries of "Me Voy", crescendoing into a climactic break-beat finale. Finally, Etyen delivers the icing, with a modular rework of his track "Kayen" that diverges from the original, with a minimalistic approach based around a singular evolving and devolving synth line building with layers of reverberated harmonies, layered to periodic rhythmic flurries, and coupled with ethereal textures and a warm but deep melodic bass line. While each remix explores a particular corner of the electronic sound realm, navigating through Melodic Techno, Downtempo Electronic, Rave and Breakbeat territory, the 3 tracks share a similar hardware-oriented creative approach, relying heavily on modular synthesisers and machines to achieve an organic yet modern sound, and create a diverse and unique listening experience.
